Image compression & conversion

WebP keeps transparency. Lower quality usually produces a smaller file.

Keeps aspect ratio and never upscales. Output is a still image; animated inputs become a single frame. Original metadata is not copied. Very large images may exceed available device memory.

Local processing, explained

  • Uses the browser's built-in image decoder and encoder. No image libraries, cloud processing or uploads.
  • Processes in a background worker where supported, with local canvas processing on other compatible browsers. Unsupported output formats are disabled.
  • JPEG replaces transparency with the background you choose. PNG keeps transparency and uses lossless encoding; its quality slider is disabled. Resizing still reduces detail.
  • Shows actual original and output sizes. Already optimized images can become larger after conversion.
  • Images need decoded pixels in memory, unlike streaming video. Inputs are limited to 50 MiB and decoded images to 40 million pixels. Clearing the result or closing the page releases the saved output.
  • This page and its assets do not record site visit statistics. Images and filenames never leave your device. Privacy.
